Here's why I liked this vet so much:Location is literally a block away from my place, which is why I chose it in the first place. I just moved and found them on yelp, so I decided to try them out. When I rang them Monday afternoon to bring my rat, who was going downhill fast, to get euthanized, the lady who answered the phone treated me with utmost care and respect, which proves their love for all animals regardless of breed or size. When I brought Huey over after work she let me have my moment alone but reassured me she was there to answer any questions I had, etc. They also took her favorite T-shirt back with her w/out hesitation so at least I knew she had something familiar. I've had many rats and have been to many vets, and this was by far the most pleasant location.

I want to send my thanks out to PHP! As some of you may have read about my dog Holli in previous posts, I am heartbroken that she did pass on April 3rd 2012. Dr.Steffes came to my home to euthanize her and said she wasn't ready...and that I will know and she will let me know. Most vets don't do that let alone make house calls! Holli was 17 and she did let me know! And oh what a cool life she had! The staff at PHP has been so patient, understanding and compassionate. They even sent our family flowers and let us return her unused food (special diet Royal Canin) for a full refund. That may be an arrangement with the company, but how many vets offices will tell you that? They also work with an organization that will accept Hollis's old stuff and put it to use for less fortunate animals. Better than looking at an empty dog bed and blankets and crying even more...... When my next 4 legged FINDS me I will for sure take that baby to them as well. Untill then I will probably stop in and say hi periodically and they will understand that my arms are empty for a while. To my Holli Bear....till we meet again..........

Dr. Boyer and Dr. Steffis have been Riley's vets for many years. They have seen our 14 year old lab through various surgeries, including removal of a large tumor and countless ailments and pains. The doctors and the staff at this hospital have always been caring, both about Riley and about us.  On Friday, January 20th, we went to Pet Hospital of Peñasquitos to have Riley put to sleep. When we brought Riley in for the last time, Dr Steffis promptly came in to assist with the preparations. I was given as much time as I needed to be with Riley until I felt we were both ready. Dr. Boyer then came in and, with his voice breaking, explained the procedure. After Riley passed I was left with him for as long as I needed to say my farewell.  Dr. Boyer and Dr. Steffis and their entire staff made this as comfortable and as painless as possible. I was able to speak with them afterwards to thank them for their kindness and caring. This entire veterinary practice loves the work they do and shows it every time we have been in. I would recommend this group to everyone.

Pudgy had been seeing another known exotic vet closer to my area. After a visit with one of their staff members, who misdiagnosed my Pudgy, I finally listened to a recommendation I had received from a local pet store owner (who has been raising bearded dragons for 20+ years). RP is not close to me, but it was worth the drive. Dr. Boyer was magnificent, and I was a blubbering idiot-completely distraught that after three vet appointments I couldn't figure out what was going on with my Pudgy. Each time (now a total of three) we went to the office, we never even sat in the waiting room. We were taken back immediately and Dr. B was with us within a minute. In fact, the last time we were there, Dr. B was in the lobby area and took us back on his own initiative after taking a look at Pudgemeister. The first time we went, Dr. B actually GOT DOWN ON THE FLOOR WITH HER!  As it turned out, Pudgy could not be saved. It was an absolutely devastating time for me. I cried. A lot. Dr. B was patient and understanding, but he did not want to mislead me NOR charge me for an expensive surgery he knew Pudgy could not survive. His concern was for Pudgy, NOT for his bottom line. On July 25th I made the heart-wrenching decision to let her go and Dr. B and his staff gave me the time and privacy I needed to say goodbye. Just writing this makes me tear up. Dr. B later called me after the necropsy and told me Pudgy would have thanked me. He actually performed it so I could be assured I'd made the right decision, and as much as I miss her, I know I did. As soon as he saw Pudgy he knew. Dr. B KNOWS lizards and he knows what he is talking about. I would not take my beardie elsewhere. I understand with our pets we become emotional, and vet care (without pet insurance) is pricy. I have been around Yelp awhile now (this is my 400th review!), and I assure you my review is 100% honest and real. Dr. Boyer and his staff (shout out to Danielle) receive my utmost respect, thanks and HIGHEST recommendation. I don't know that I have it in me to ever have another bearded dragon or pet for that matter, but if I am ever ready someday, I will not take my pet elsewhere.

I moved here 10 1/2 years ago with my 33 cats (all rescues, some from situations so horrible I won't go into here). My cats were the ones that were considered unadoptable due to illnesses and behaviors. They were what was left after decades of rescue and placement. When we moved here my cats joined my husband's 2 cats who both had feline leukemia. We obviously needed a veterinary practice that would be up to the different tasks of caring for our special colony. In all these years I have never been disappointed in the care given to my sometimes difficult cats at the Pet Hospital of Penasquitos. When my cats have to stay I know that the entire staff will treat them with the care only true animal lovers can give, and the expertise of highly trained professionals. When the time comes that life is no longer an option without suffering, the staff helps us to ease our beloved creatures out of their misery with great kindness and sensitivity. We could not have done all that we have for these wonderful animals without the help of the Pet Hospital of Penasquitos.

We love Pet Hospital of Penasquitos! We originally took our first pup Savannah to the vet up the street and they were ok but their prices were a little unreasonable. We came upon these guys in 2005 when we needed to have Savannah fixed and then Dallas and we have stayed with them ever since. The girls up front have a great memory! We come about once a year and they remember us every time :) The doctors are very knowledgeable and we definitely trust them with both Savannah and Dallas.

I have taken my dogs to Dr Boyer for over 6 years. During that time, I could not have been more satisfied with the care my dogs received. Dr. Boyer is invariably genuinely interested in the dogs, always willing to answer questions in detail, truly cares for the dogs, never rushes through an appointment and returns phone calls promptly.  What is more significant, even my unfriendly cattle dog likes him! I recently had to have my dear Oreo Akita, euthanized. Dr Boyer euthanized her at my house, it was a very tender and caring procedure. And afterward, he sent me flowers and a sympathy card.  Dr Boyer provides detailed estimates on suggested care. He does not push unnecessary care and I feel he is looking after the well-being of my dogs and not just padding his wallet!

I decided to post a review today after taking my Papillon Puppy in for a recheck for her spay surgery, and happily to my surprise there was no charge for the re-check. My 5 month old Papillon and 1 year old Ragdoll Cat have both seen Dr. Boyer and Dr. Steffes. I have nothing but good things to say for both doctors tableside manners with my pets and genuine care for my animals. The gals up at the front desk know me and my pets by name and always greet us warmly when we arrive for our checkups. We have many vet offices closer to where we live, but we continue to drive the 25 minutes to PQ for the excellent pet and customer service we receive here.

My wife and I inherited a 5 yr old Chihuhua from our son. The little dog was having denta issues/bad breath/anxiety. Dr Boyer did an exam, cleaned the teeth and advised we have three loose ones removed. The turn around in this dog is amazing. Dr Boyer elimated the bad breath, and we can now touch the dogs face without her having pain. The procedure was done in a morning, and the dog was home and feeling great by mid afternoon. Kudos to Dr Boyer and his staff in the professional way they treated this dog. We are very pleased with the staff and clinic and Dr Boyer and recommend him to any of our dog loving friends.
